Mischief Managed

Goose Brain

I finally have a picture of my brain! I think I look like a bit of a goose, but it’s still cool to look at. The whole experience of getting a brain scan was exciting too - well mostly. I’ve never been admitted to hospital before, so it was cool to be able to have an MRI without actually being ill. I went to the Centre for Advanced MRI in Grafton and met the researchers who were both very nice. I got changed into a gown and had to take off all metal. I have this bracelet that I have never taken off since last Christmas, so it felt a bit strange without that. The MRI machine was really big and cool. I have seen so many of them on episodes of House and I now I was finally going in one. I lay down and the woman made sure I was comfortable. She put the cage thing over my head and gave me the button pad so I could perform the tasks while they scanned my brain. It was hard to keep perfectly still. Especially towards the end when I felt really uncomfortable and slightly claustrophobic. I had been lying in the same position for a whole hour and my tailbone ached so much. I wondered if they could see the pain in my brain? The tests were fun to do, but also a little hard towards the end because it was a bit draining. I’m really happy I participated in the research though - I got a picture of a my brain!
